Pics & Vids 2011-13

God planted the seed in many hearts to host a Salkehatchie camp at Union UMC beginning in the summer of 2011.  From that point on, many lives were transformed…from the campers to the volunteers to the homeowners…all growing in their walk with Christ as they became His hands and feet in service to our neighbors!

Do you have the NERVE to SERVE?!

“Just as the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve,

and to give his life a ransom for many.” – Matthew 20:28

Lake Murray Salkehatchie campers answered this question with a resounding YES!

Fifty eight campers from across the state came together to serve 6  homeowners by repairing roofs, installing a bathroom, making bathrooms handicap accessible, building ramps, fixing deck railing, installing ceiling fans and a/c window units, putting in a water heater, installing new doors, diverting water, repairing ceilings, installing underpinning, cleaning, painting, landscaping, and so much more!

We were blessed with AMAZING support from volunteers and donors from Union UMC, Salem UMC, Chapin UMC, Disciples UMC, Buncombe St. UMC, St. Matthews/Ashland/Concord UMC, Wesley Chapel UMC, Riverland Hills Baptist, Brookland Baptist, Catholic Friends, Caskey Family, Southern Patriot, Promotech, Wendy’s, Richland County Solid Waste, Meetze Plumbing, and Irmo Middle School.

Through meaningful devotional speakers and scripture, our campers grew spiritually as we emptied ourselves of selfish ambitions and desires and filled ourselves with seeking the interests and needs of others.  God blessed our camp by instilling in us the NERVE to SERVE!

All of Me!

One of the scribes came and heard them arguing, and recognizing that He had answered them well, asked Him, “What commandment is the foremost of all?”  Jesus answered, “The foremost is, ‘HEAR, O ISRAEL! THE LORD OUR GOD IS ONE LORD;  AND YOU SHALL LOVE THE LORD YOUR GOD WITH ALL   YOUR HEART, AND WITH ALL YOUR   SOUL, AND WITH ALL YOUR MIND, AND WITH ALL YOUR   STRENGTH.’  The second is this, ‘YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.”  The scribe said to Him, “Right, Teacher; You have truly stated that HE IS ONE, AND THERE IS NO ONE ELSE BESIDES HIM;  AND TO LOVE HIM WITH ALL THE HEART AND WITH ALL THE UNDERSTANDING AND WITH ALL THE STRENGTH, AND TO LOVE ONE’S NEIGHBOR AS HIMSELF, is much more than all burnt offerings and sacrifices.”  When Jesus saw that he had answered intelligently, He said to him, “YOU ARE NOT FAR FROM THE KINGDOM OF GOD.” After that, no one would venture to ask Him any more questions.
